Details: During the Forties, a white southern girl named Jackie Cooper had a black nanny named Ella. Ella taught young Jackie about racial tension in the South during that time, and about human dignity and courage. Jackie and Ella soon became very close friends, until Ella was able to go to school herself and had to leave. Jackie, now an adult, wants to reunite with Ella and say thanks to her for how she changed her life.
Little is known about Ella, including her last name. Jackie has no photos of her. She is believed to have married a black doctor and moved to either Rochester, New York or Baltimore, Maryland. Ella may have also had a daughter who died at the age of nine.
