Real Name: Michael Lee McGuffey
Aliases: Michael Lee Yoakum
Wanted For: Murder
Missing Since: 1993
CaseEditDetails: Michael McGuffey is wanted for the 1993 murder of his ex-wife, Michelle "Shelley" McGuffey. They had been divorced for a month after five abusive and violent years of marriage and one child. She worked at a restaurant in Mount Vernon, Washington where she told Michael she was as she planned to move out of town; she wanted to file their final tax return before she left on September 27, 1993. After she parked, Michelle saw Michael approach her, so she locked her doors. She wanted to be in the restaurant with other people around because of his violent behavior. Michael convinced her to let him enter the car, and several witnesses watched Michael and Michelle struggle and him shooting her at close range while she was seated in her car; he fled the scene on foot. He has not been seen since and a reward is being offered in the case.
Extra Notes: This case first aired on the March 8, 1996 episode of Unsolved Mysteries.
Results: Captured. Michael McGuffey was arrested in Mexico in November of 2001 because of a tip to America's Most Wanted, which also ran the case. In 2002, McGuffey pled guilty to his ex-wife's murder and was sentenced to 26 years and 8 months in prison.
