Case: Lost Son
Location: San Antonio, Texas
Details: In the spring of 1967, Jordanian Air Force member Fawzi Mahmud was training in San Antonio, Texas, when a friend introduced him to twenty-year-old Zoila Maldonado; the two soon began dating. However, Zoila's family did not approve of their relationship. Despite this, Zoila and Fawzi tried to spend as much time together as possible. Six months after they met, Zoila told Fawzi that she was pregnant; Fawzi was overjoyed and the two planned to get married.
However, Fawzi had to leave in November of 1967 to go back to Jordan; months earlier, the Six Days War had broken out. Fawzi and Zoila wrote letters to each other, and in one of the letters, Zoila revealed that she had given birth to a boy named Amadeo Marcelo. The Jordanian Air Force refused to release Fawzi, so Zoila planned to move to Jordan. However, Zoila soon had a change of heart; she felt that Amadeo needed a father figure back home. She decided to marry someone else.
Two years later, Fawzi returned to the United States. He tried to called Zoila, but her mother answered and immediately hung up the phone. When he went to Zoila's house, her mother told him that he has to leave or else she would call the police. Fawzi feared that if he would get arrested, he would be deported, so he left.
Years later, Fawzi married and has his own family. However, he still wants to meet his son and introduce him to his family.
